SAMM chiefs says despite lodging a report and handing over 50 documents as evidence, MACC has yet to act on alleged corruption in Kelantan.
KUALA LUMPUR: Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) has questioned the lack of action by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an alleged corruption scandal in Kelantan.
At a press conference on the issue, SAMM chief, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, said the commission had yet to act on alleged corruption in Kelantan involving timber concessions despite a report having been lodged.
On October 27, SAMM accompanied a group of Kelantan voters to lodge the report and hand over relevant documents to the MACC.
Also at the press conference was Mohd Afiq Ayob, who lodged the report and claimed the scandal involved a Kelantan State Exco, a “Datuk” who used the address of the Istana Negara and another Chinese “Datuk” acting on behalf of a timber company based in Kuala Lumpur.
He said he handed over 50 documents on alleged corruption amounting to over RM5 million to the MACC.
Mohd Afiq said one document, a letter from Lapangan Desiran Sdn Bhd to the Kompleks Perkayuan Kelantan (KPK) – a state agency in charge of logging – listed eight “contributions” related to a deal between the two parties.
The documents also show, among others, a payment to an Exco as well as an overseas trip, a “contribution” of a Toyota Fortuner and tiles worth over RM34,000.
There are also documents of payments made by a Kelantan state government company to a “Datuk” using the Istana Negara address and a copy of a RM1 million cheque paid to a “Datuk.”
Fed up with the lack of action from the authorities, Chegubard said it was time to go public with the evidence.
“The documents clearly indicate Lapangan Desiran Sdn Bhd has used a large amount of funds to lobby for timber concessions in Kelantan,” he alleged.
Chegubard questioned how the Datuk who used the address of the Istana Negara, and who claimed to be close to both Barisan Nasional and Kelantan state government leaders, could act on behalf of the KPK.
To make matters worse, Chegubard said SAMM as well as those who lodged the report had been criticised by certain parties and accused of slander.
Chegubard slammed the MACC for failing to act against the many reports he lodged about cases linked to BN and Umno leaders, but was quick to act against allegations of corruption levelled at leaders from the Opposition.
