S'gor Forestry Department director vindicated me

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR rebel Badrul Hisham Shaharin today claimed that he felt vindicated with the statement from the Selangor Forestry Department director who has indirectly stated that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was involved in giving out logging contracts.

Badrul, better known as CheguBard, has been a fierce critic of Azmin, accussing the PKR deputy president and Selangor MB of giving out logging contracts without practising the open tender system.

“Paragraph eight of the statement clearly states that the licence to extract is only given the approval of the exco meeting. Who chairs the exco meeting?” said CheguBard in reference to a statement by the state forestry department director two days ago.

“The director's statement also stated that the logging projects were not given via open tendering,” ChegBard said in a statement.

“I thank the director for his statement as it proves that Azmin lied as he was involved in the logging approval process and there was no open tender.” he said.

CheguBard added that the state forestry department director appeared to be under tremendous pressure to ensure that Azmin was not blamed for the logging fiasco.

He also accused Azmin of using his supporters in the party to urge for action to be taken against him (CheguBard) for criticising Azmin.

“Azmin has been using his cartel to call for my sacking over my attacks. Azmin himself has previously openly criticised other party leaders.

“If I should be booted out for criticising party leaders, Azmin too should be sacked for insulting party leaders and the president.”

CheguBard has asked PKR to take action against Azmin over alleged mismanagement of the state. He had also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the menteri besar over alleged corrupt practices in the awarding of logging licences in the state.

Selangor exco for tourism, nature, green technology and consumerism, Elizabeth Wong, said in a statement today that Selangor had imposed a 25-year moratorium since 2010 on commercial logging, and that the contracts given out were for clearing.
