Upset with MB, Kirby workers walk out

This morning after discussing with the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar(Chief Minister), Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hassan for more than an hour, ten workers of Ladang Kirby walked out and refused to sit in when the Chief Minister was giving his press conference.

The meeting started just after 10.30am, with a number of tense moments. The Chief Minister (MB) refused to allow group spokesperson Comrade S.Arutchelvan to participate in the meeting. He was then escorted out by two police officers. The workers protested but went on to discuss under protest. The MB said that he has no power our Plantation Giant Sime Darby and offered the workers an option to buy Council Houses at Senawang. The workers instead put forward a demand of housing at the plantation and even asked for 5 acres of land. The MB said that he cannot invoke the Land Acquisition Act as the State cannot pay the Plantation owner at market rates.

The workers then, truly disappointed left the meeting room while the MB went to hold a Press Conference with the media and the Plantation owners. The National Union of Plantation Workers (NUPW) was present but remained silent while MIC State Exco also remained silent during the entire meeting. JERIT’s coordinator E.Parames was also refused to the meeting though her name has been submitted much earlier as a member of the delegation.
