Booklet gives blow-by-blow account on RM24mil ring : Mkini

A 16-page booklet by a PKR-linked NGO presenting a collation of information on the multi-million ringgit ring linked to the Prime Minister's wife will be launched tomorrow.

While the information provided in the booklet is readily available on the Internet, the product of Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) traces the events which have occurred since the expose on the RM24.45 million ring.

Rosmah ring bookletThe issue was made public by SAMM leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegubard, who is also a prominent PKR member.

Kicking off with salacious foreword comparing Rosmah Mansor to the infamous Imelda Marcos of the Philippines, the booklet presents both documents said to have been leaked to the NGO by Customs Department officers and the authorities' response to it.

The information trail presented begins from customs records dated April 14, 2011 showing that a ring labelled 'Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring' was brought in from New York.

It states that the ring, worth exactly RM23, 458, 400 was imported on behalf of Jacob and Co by local company Malca Amit, but no duty was payable as taxes on luxury goods had been lifted from beginning-2011.

Rosmah ring bookletAlso stated on the record was that the ring is to be inspected by one 'H.E. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor'.

“The key question is, why was the PM's wife's name stated? Does she moonlight as a jewellery inspector?” the booklet asks.

It later moves on to state that on July 13, Chegubard lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, resulting in an inspection on the cargo section of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Following this, a customs form circulated on the Internet, purported showing that the ring was taken by hand to Singapore four days after it arrived.

The mystery of the customs officer

The form was signed by one 'Abdul Najid Abdul Razak', who was stated to be a customs officer in the passenger inspection division a KLIA.

However, the booklet asserts that the Customs Department website states that Abdul Najid is an officer in the training and services division.

“Will they later say that this officer was transferred to KLIA when the website, which when viewed was last updated on Oct 4, 2011, said he was supposed to be still attached to a division in Putrajaya?” it asked.

It added that there also appeared to be amendments made onto the form by hand, changing the export date to April 20 and the flight number to SQ107, “without any initials”.

“This raises high suspicion over whether this K2 form was used to save Rosmah.”

The booklet moves on to say that Rosmah had on July 29, two weeks after the first expose, denied that she bought the ring, while ex-PKR member Anuar Shaari told private television station TV3 news that the ring belonged to Maira Nazarbayev, the future mother-in-law of Rosmah's daughter.

NONEIt also states that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz (left) had in a written answer in Parliament to DAP-Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng on Oct 4,confirmed the ring’s existence.

Nazri, however, said that the ring was not purchased by anyone in Malaysia and was returned to the company which owns it.

'Early demise'

As a parting shot, the booklet, which also solicits a RM1.50 donations per booklet and provides the NGO's bank account details, lists multi-million spending related to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife.

This includes the maintenance costs for their official residence, the budget for the education programmes of Rosmah’s Permata group, and the cost of the accessories which she has been photographed wearing.

It also includes a 18-karat white gold Jacob & Co bangle weighing 65.77g and Hermes handbags.

“A special note for Umno/BN people, be sure that retaining Rosmah and Najib spells an early demise for Umno/BN,” the booklet warned.
